Steamboat Andy

Well, is not a masterwork, but I want you to see it xD
This is a 3 seconds (about 40 drawings) loop, of a character walking. The design is based on the old Mickey Mouse xDD

Yep! That's what I'm 'studying'! LOL

Hypnotic design

A few days ago I heard about the appearance of a new series, as you can see, comes from the creators of Pocoyo. We're talking about Jelly Jamm.

It's a risky proposition, yes. We are in difficult times, and it's practically impossible to launch an international series and get it everything to perfection. But these animators have an advantage, hypnosis.

No, not subliminal messages or anything like that. I'm talking about aesthetics also noted in Pocoyo, and here we're also delighted with that. I don't know how they do it, but the animators of this series have a resource that if you use well (and Pocoyo have not done bad) can place almost any children's series project directly on top.

The flat colors and the rounded design of the characters make this piece a visual wonder, especially for children who are likely to be gawking at the TV with each chapter, as happened with the blue little kid and his friends. And considering that that series had only narrator, I would like to see what will get this one with complete dialogues between characters.

This is the opening.

I have not seen any chapter, but I have an overwhelming desire (so I can also judge the dub xD).

Short but perfect

In the few days I've been in the animation school I have delved into the life and work of a lot of authors, including some who I already knew, but I enjoy reading about them as the first day I did. I will analyze a lot of stuff, so I decided to write here about it (and fill a bit the blog xD).

I'm going to begin with a great one, Koji Morimoto. From this, obviously, the title of the post. Morimoto has created lots of artwork, but practically all are short films and video clips. Let's take a look at his work.

Morimoto began working as an animator on 'Ashita no Joe' (Tomorrow's Joe), and during that time he saw the work of other animators like Takashi Nakamura, what prompted him to work hard and start on more ambitious projects. One of these projects was his collaboration in the anthology 'Neo-Tokyo' (Labyrinth Tales), in the short film 'The order to stop construction', by Katsuhiro Otomo.
The animator later founded Studio 4 º C, and from there his career has been almost exclusively directional. Among his latest animations are found the concert scenes of 'Macross Plus'.
In the world of music videos, Morimoto has worked for The Bluetones, and the Japanese pop singer Hikaru Utada.

And now I'll talk of the piece that draws attention to me xD. In 2003, the Wachowski brothers created 'Animatrix', a compilation of short films occurred in the Matrix universe. Each is directed by a guest, and Morimoto had the chance to delight us with 'Beyond'. Here it is:

Recently I saw Animatrix again, and no doubt this is the short I like most.
To fill a little more, and give end to the post, I also link an interesting spot that he animated for Nike.

Well, with this I conclude, I hope you enjoyed and if you can, dig deeper into his work. Really worth it.

Animation!

I haven't updated for a long, and I think it's time xD
I will just explain why takes me so long to write here xD

This Monday I started studying again, and what I'm doing is an integral animation course (2D, 3D and StopMotion), which gives rise to the emergence of many projects. Clearly I'll write here about my progress xD

Well, that's all for now. See you!

Well, well ... Just got back from my holidays. I've been a week in Turkey. A very cool place indeed.
I have an announcement to make, and is that Thursday has begun to be published, but in Spanish (Don't worry, I will do a translation). You can take a look to the first chapter in Subculture. Also, I'm doing a little project to publish during the wait between chapter and chapter. I'll report!

Google Mercury

Everyone has seen the new Google Doodle, a tribute to Freddie Mercury, for his 65 anniversary. 'Don't stop me now' is in my opinion one of his best songs, and I found it a perfect choice for the production. But I would emphasize how much I was surprised of the pixelated aesthetics of the video, what is extremely elaborated. It was unexpected, but highly consistent with the rest of the animation and the song chosen.

I haven't much else to say, it's so cool, and I like it. And this isn't a superarticle but I thought that it was good to post here.

Low activity

The few of you who move around here maybe have noticed that I don't write too much this days. It's because I'm with a personal project that consumes me a lot of time.
I just wanted to justify myself.

I hope that the activity can increase from September. Until then I'll write some garbage...

フィニアス と ファーブ (Finiasu to Faabu)

This is how 'Phineas and Ferb' is pronunced in Japan.
You might ask: "What is this? What is he talking about? What is going on? Why is he listing questions I might ask him?"
Well, recently, a friend posted a link on my Facebook Wall. It was the clip of the song "Busted", entirely translated into Japanese. It was very interesting and fun, and I realized how far can reach the quality of a dubbing. When I see cartoons in Spanish and Original Version, I can see that usually the voices are identical, but I don't search how it is in other languages. Well, what I'm saying is that Phineas and Ferb japanese voices are perfect, the quality of the cast is amazing.

I leave a few compilations of their songs in Japanese, for you to give a look ...

2. Backyard Beach
3. In the Mall
4. S'Winter

Fredde Gredde

Okay, I saw this video today and left me blown away. This is Fredde Gredde, playing by himself (well, with his Kage Bunshin) the song 'Killer Queen'.

The fact is that I'd already heard before about this guy, because he takes time wandering around YouTube. There is a video that became famous, one in which he played the unplugged version of Wind Waker song. Here it is:

He definitely has talent. That's why he announced that is already recording his Debut Album, whose name will be 'Thirteen Eight' and will see the light (You can guess) on August 13. I don't know about you, but I have curiosity!

If you have time, watch these videos as well. They are compilations of songs from series, cartoons, or video games. They are great!

Some of them come, lots of them go

I write this little post because I was struck by the excessive movement that is taking place lately in the cast of some series.

We can start with 'Two and a Half Men' and its controversial character, Charlie Sheen, who was fired from the series and the television network for his statements and insults. That isn't new, but what comes now, yes. We have recently heard rumors about possible candidates to replace him, among whom was the young Aston Kutcher. However, some days ago, he asked in a social network: "What is the square root of 6.25?". The answer is two and a half, yes. The actor has made more than clear that he shall be in the successful series of the CBS from the ninth season.
But it isn't the only character lost. Recently there has been news that Hugh Laurie will leave the series 'House M.D.' after the eighth season. This is because he isn't willing to stay far from his family and he wants to try to develop his career as a musician. Not yet known if the series will continue without him, but if so, it could be a huge failure, as happened with 'Scrubs'.

In conclusion, my opinion. I haven't seen 'Two and a Half Men', 'House M.D.' at times, and 'Scrubs' is very great, but in all the cases it's a shame to say goodbye to characters, especially if they are the protagonists.

Men in Black III

Well, well, well ... I'm late with this, but it never hurts to inform if there is a clueless that has not yet been aware.

It has been confirmed that a new 'Men in Black' film is in process. Men in Black III, yes. It's also known that both Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones have signed on to be there, in their respective roles, of course.

And what's new in this movie? For example the appareance of new actors like Josh Brolin, Emma Thompson and Alice Eve. And the characters of these actors have helped to uncover some of what the plot of the movie will be. Brolin will play a young version of Agent K, and we can see him with Will Smith in the filming, which makes no sense unless the film contains something like time travel, what is suspected to be part of the argument.

Some location photos:

Once more, the Director will be Barry Sonnenfeld, and in addition it's confirmed that David Koepp has written the script from Etan Cohen's draft.

The film is released on 25 May 2012, and maybe it has a 3D version too.

Anamanaguchi

Have you already played Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game? What do you think of the retro video game atmosphere? The graphics, the gameplay, and something very important ... the music. After this brief introduction I guess you can infer that I will not talk about the Scott Pilgrim game, but their successful OST. Who composed it?

The responsible of this great work is the NY chiptune punk band 'Anamanaguchi'. This group, although not very known in Spain, has managed to reinvent chiptune music, combining the sounds of a 1985 hacked NES with common instruments, creating the perfect blend of traditional and digital.

Although the similarity of their themes to the 80s videogame music is obvious, the band says that this isn’t their main inspiration, as their songwriting is mostly driven by "simple pop stuff" such as Weezer and the Beach Boys.

Due to the success of the Scott Pilgrim videogame OST, they are constantly associated with it, and the pixel-art artist Paul Robertson, who created the sprites of the game and has also done some work for the group.

The band has four members: songwriter Peter Berkman, bassist James DeVito, guitarist Ary Warnaar and drummer Luke Silas.

In closing I will say that Anamanaguchi is, if not the best, one of the best chiptune music bands that have passed through my ears. Totally recommended.

Winter, yes. Winter is coming. Because the American television series that adapts the adventures of the books of George RR Martin is here.

Scott Pilgrim illustrated

Hellooo!
Today I bring you a little post about the drawings that Bryan Lee O'Malley, Scott Pilgrim creator, has posted on his blog in the last few days. First, I put the special covers that he has made for the Japanese edition of the comic. The first one is the cover of volumes 3 and 4, which in Japan are published in one single number. It's colored by Steve Buccellato, who also made the color pages from the beach.

Here is the result.

The next one is the cover of the Japanese version of the last volume. Only the cover is absolutely epic. It's colored by Kinuko Mariel Cartwright.

It's a reference to 'Street Fighter Zero 2'.

And to finish I put a picture of two days ago, that Bryan made to submit to the @HeartJapanUK charity auction, which will be held on April 20.

Great work, as usual!
More about the cartoonist in his blog and in his twitter!

Here it is!

Cosplayer Saya died

On March 15th, the young cosplayer Saya, known for her cosplays for Gainax, Square Enix and Vocaloid among others, died in an accident that her family didn't want to give details. What they have confirmed is that the Internet rumors were lies, it has not been a suicide.

The people already feared by her disappearance in the recent tsunami, but she made an entry on his blog confirming that she was safe and sound. Shortly thereafter, we heard this sad news, confirmed by her younger sister last April 4th.

My sincere condolences to family, friends and fans of the girl.

X-Men: First Class

Okay, I'm late with this, but I'll write a little something.
For some time we have available the information of the new movie of our favorite mutants. Calm down, I'm not talking about ninja turtles. I am referring to the X-Men, this time they make a great back in time to tell us the story of Professor Charles Xavier and Magneto. X-Men: First Class:

"In 1963, Charles Xavier starts up a school and later a team, for humans with superhuman abilities. Among them is Erik Lensherr, his best friend... and future archenemy."
We know that the movie is still on post-production and will be released in June 3rd. But for the moment we have the trailer and the plot:
Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-MEN.

Many of us were surprised for the choice of the cast, but we hope that the actors will do it great. Anyway, among the cast members we can find James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique.
Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass) is the director, and the script has been written by Bryan Singer, who also wrote the first two movies of the saga.

With this information short but enough to whet your appetite, I leave. Bye!

Scott Pilgrim Bluray - Spanish edition Review

This article is for the Spanish people. But if you're not Spanish you can read it as well. It's funny and didactic.

WAAAAAAH! YEEEEEEES!!! IT'S MIIIIIIIIINE!!! OOOOH YEAAAH!!!
Ahem ... sorry. I promised myself I would do a serious review, and that's what I'm going to do.
Ladies and gentlemen, I have finally in my hands, and before releasing in the stores, the Spanish edition of Scott Pilgrim BluRay. I will speak before anyone else of his contents, so you'll decide if you want to buy it or not. In the original edition we found loads of extra content, and this version have too, but for some reason some of the things aren't (I'll review it deeper later.) This, in fact, isn't surprising. I was thinking that with the little impact that it has had in Spain, the edition will had much less than what they have presented. What has annoyed me is that the signs in the movie ("So yeah", "This one girl...", etc.) are not translated into video, but with some traditional subtitles, when we have saw it completely edited in the cinema. Even with these things I must say that you can enjoy the graphics that this masterwork presents much more if you see it in high-definition. Both the audio and video let you glued to the couch, it's totally amazing.

Now I attach a list of extra content that appears or don't appear in the Spanish version:
• Feature Commentaries: Edgar Wright, Brian Lee O'Malley, etc. - YES
• Trivia Track: additional subtitles - YES
• Deleted Scenes - YES
• Scott Pilgrim vs the Bloopers - YES
• Storyboards - YES
• Making of - YES
• Alternative Edits - YES
• Galleries - YES
• Music Featurette - NO
• "You Too Can Be Sex Bob-Omb" - NO
• Pre-production - NO
• Music Videos - NO
• Osymyso Remixes - NO
• Scott Pilgrim vs the Censors - NO
• Production Videoblogs - NO
• Scott Pilgrim vs Animation - DEEP AND PAINFUL NO
I don't know why Universal do this to us. It's a fatality. But at least we can be glad that it's out, because here Scott Pilgrim is not very famous. Anyway, Bluray content is good, but it could have been better (If you're looking for extras, if you want only the movie is perfect).
But I make a small announcement to the Spanish fans whose want more and more extras. I've heard that the original version is sell on the Internet, with all the content, and it has subtitles in Spanish. I go for it.

...

What's the website for Amazon.ca?

Synchronizing...

Ladies and gentlemen, followers that I don't have, today, March 28th 2011, I declare the Geekastic blog OFFICIALLY OPENED. And when I say opened I mean synchronized with DeviantArt and Twitter. The idea is show my projects and advertise my blog on various networks, and if the visits improve I will expand the territory. First I will try to let various blogs and websites know me, affiliating and things like that, and after a time, maybe I will create a Facebook page, a forum or something.
But for the moment I will publish here at DA and Twitter simultaneously, so the people will find these things by chance. To do this I will start writing about all sorts of things, design, animation, tutorials, recommendations, reviews ... Everything. xD
At the moment this is the plan and the project. Depending on the developments I'll do one thing or another.

Oscars...

The other day I saw the Oscars from start to finish, and personally I found little content but plenty of ads, and great movies strangly valued. I will not dwell very much, because if I give details about what I saw yesterday I could write a 300 page report which describes in detail the infinite hurt that I feel at this time. I don't know if I could end it before dying of disappointment. Yes, I'm not happy with the results in spite of the 4 Oscars that "Inception" has won. Hold out until 6 am (Yes, in Spain) to get this kick, isn't... productive at all.

Everything comes from the excessive importance that has been given to "The king's speech" which, although I consider it a good movie, isn't the best of the year. Best director (Where is Chris Nolan? Huh?) and best actor, maybe. But not the best film.

Moreover, Ellen Page didn't appear in the whole issue.

Now that I have made clear how unhappy I am with the gala, as with the results, I would like to know your opinion. What do you think about this Oscars in general?
